How do I log a day?
Tap each bubble for something that happened, then tap ✓. Anything you didn't tap counts as “no” for that day. Swipe or drag the dates at the top to log earlier days.
When do insights appear?
After about 7 logged days. Early hints can show up sooner. Insights get more reliable the longer you log. They show correlation, not cause, and they aren't medical advice.
How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and search for Patterns. The medium and large widgets let you log by tapping bubbles without opening the app.
I got a new phone. How do I get my data back?
Your logs come over when you set up the new phone from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one.
Can I export my data?
Yes. In Patterns, go to Settings and tap Export. You'll get a spreadsheet (CSV) with every day you've logged.
How do I delete everything?
Delete the Patterns app from your phone. This erases all trackers, logs, notes and photos. To remove a single tracker, go to Settings and tap × next to it. Archive hides it but keeps its past days; Delete permanently erases them.
Privacy policy
Effective October 22, 2026
- Everything you log stays on your iPhone, unless you choose to share a tracker with a friend.
- There are no accounts and no sign-in.
- We don't collect, sell or share any of your data.
- There are no ads, analytics or tracking tools in the app.
What the app stores
Patterns stores what you enter, on your device only. This includes the names of your trackers, your daily answers, notes, any photos you attach and your settings. Patterns has no server, and none of this is sent to us. The only thing that ever leaves your phone is what you choose to share with a friend (see below).
Sharing with a friend
Sharing is off unless you turn it on. If you share trackers with a friend, Patterns uses Apple's iCloud to send them the names of those trackers, which days you logged them, and your iCloud name. You see the same about the trackers they share with you. This goes through your and your friend's iCloud accounts, never to us, and we can't see it. Your other trackers, notes, photos and insights are never shared. You can stop sharing at any time in Settings, which removes your shared days from your friend's app.
Photos
Patterns only sees a photo when you choose one to attach to a day. The copy it keeps is saved on your device, with location information removed.
Insights
Patterns are calculated on your iPhone. Your data is never uploaded for analysis.
Backups and the widget
Your iPhone may include Patterns's data in your own iCloud or computer backups, depending on your backup settings. The Home Screen widget reads the same data on your device.
Reminders
If you turn on the daily reminder, the notification is scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent from a server.
Exporting and deleting
You can export your data as a spreadsheet at any time from Settings. Data leaves your phone only when you choose to share that file. To erase everything, delete the app.
Children
Patterns doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Health information
Patterns helps you notice patterns in your own logs. It isn't a medical device and doesn't give medical advice. Talk to a doctor about health concerns.
